Field and Stream's The Best Turkey Calls of 2025, Tested & Reviewed
Field and Stream Best Turkey Calls of 2025
Field and Stream Hunting Editor Will Brantley, was performing a review of box calls, pot style calls, push buttons and mouth calls earlier this spring. We are pleased to announced that our original Batwing won the Best New Batwing for 2025 (https://www.fieldandstream.com/hunting/best-turkey-calls) !
This batwing was the first mouth call design I developed when we decided to launch Longbranch Game Calls in 2024. This general design was a call I built for my wife, Melinda, because it is extremely easy to use and sounds great. It’s so easy to use because it is a looser stretched mouth call, made of thinner latex. The combination of thin materials and a loose stretch makes this call extremely versatile; allowing it to go from soft to loud with minimal air. I am extremely proud of this call because it is extremely versatile allowing the user to switch from soft tree talk to more aggressive cutting and yelping as the morning progresses.
Many hunters choose the incorrect type of mouth call based on how they channel the air flow while using a diaphragm call. The beauty of a batwing is that nearly all air flow types can use a batwing to create lifelike turkey talk. Most batwings produce a mid-range toned mouth call. This allows the caller create clearer notes on the front-end of their yelps to a raspy back end of the yelp. Nearly every sound a turkey makes can be produced on a batwing diaphragm call, with enough practice (including a kee kee run)!
